Our Program: Academics

squash :: academics :: activities & community svc.

Academic tutoring and enrichment sessions are held at the University Church (5655 S. University Ave.). The Church provides this space free of charge. Students spend a minimum of 3 hours per week in the classroom.

The METROsquash academic curriculum is split into two key areas: homework help and experiential learning. In the homework lab, students receive help with their homework in individual or small group settings. When they don't have homework they receive academic enrichment assignments based on their school curriculum. Upon completion of their homework and enrichment assignments, students are invited to participate in experiential learning activities that combine academic teaching with movement and fun.

The METROsquash Skill Assistance Program is aimed at students who may be struggling in a particular core subject. The Skill Assistance Program prepares individualized curriculum for students in their weakest subjects, based on quarterly testing. Additionally, the METROsquash academic curriculum focuses on standardized test preparation and improving organization and time management skills.

At METROsquash, time in the classroom is just as important as time on court. Homework completion and the handing in of assignments is a priority. If a student fails to attain a certain academic level or has outstanding assignments, they are not eligible to participate in trips and tournaments until they demonstrate improvement.

Our primary academic goal is to help students gain admission to top high schools and colleges. METROsquash provides support with the admission and financial aid process, and works with parents and students to facilitate a transformative shift in attitude regarding their academic horizons.
