Our Organization mission :: staff :: board :: partners :: NUSEA Mission The METROsquash mission is to utilize squash, education, cultural experience and community service to empower Chicago Public School students to realize their full academic, athletic and personal potential. History METROsquash was founded in Chicago in 2005 by a group of young, civic-minded professionals committed to offering underserved Chicago Public School students the opportunity to combine academics and athletics in an after-school program that significantly impacts their lives and academic performance. Founder, Conor OMalley, a Denison graduate currently working with US Squash, founded the program, brokered the use of court space with the University of Chicago and led the search to hire a full-time Executive Director.
METROsquash is modeled on established urban squash programs in New
York, Boston and Philadelphia. These programs serve hundreds of students
each year and have transformed thousands of lives. In April of 2006,
METROsquash was admitted to NUSEA (National Urban Squash and Education
Association), having met 19 key curricula criteria to become the first
NUSEA program outside of the traditional east coast squash hub. Currently,
there are emerging programs in cities across the country including:
San Diego, Baltimore, Washington DC, Minneapolis, and New Haven. |
