Our Program: Squash

squash :: academics :: activities & community svc.

Our efforts in squash instruction are geared towards teaching, sportsmanship and teamwork. Squash instruction is held after school and on weekends at the University of Chicago's Crown Field House. Each METROsquash student spends at least 3 hours on court per week. Students have the benefit of coaching from a full time squash director, private lessons from top coaches and touring players living in, and traveling through, Chicago.

One of the most exciting services that METROsquash provides is the opportunity for students to travel to local and out of town tournaments and competitions. These experiences serve to broaden their horizons and improve their games.

Our efforts in squash instruction are geared towards teaching lasting life lessons. Squash demands physical strength, stamina and flexibility. Mentally, it requires strategy, determination and the ability to implement and stick to -- or revise -- a game plan.

Most importantly, students learn sportsmanship. Often played without a referee in close quarters, squash requires a higher degree of fair play and sportsmanship than most sports. These skills are not only helpful on the court, but in everyday life.
